Danang Golf Club: Vietnam’s Best Golf Course 2012 – 2013

The Press Conference and Awarding Ceremony was held at the Sofitel Metropole Hotel in Hanoi on October 30th, 2013 where the final results were officially announced.

This year Voting process lasted from December 2012 to July 2013. Voters are Vietnamese and foreign golfers who drop their votes online and do the voting by emailing or faxing directly to the organization committee.

The results of votes were reported to the Judges Panel chaired by Mr. Doan Manh Giao, Chairman of Vietnam Golf Association. Other members of the Judges Panel include Vietnam Administration of Tourism, General Department of Sports, Vietnam Golf Association, Local Golf Associations and a golf expert from Golf Asian. Judges Panel members have visited most of the golf courses throughout the country in order to give accurate evaluation and rating. The final results were decided in September’s meeting of the Judges Panel.

Mr. Mark Siegel, member of the Judges Panel comments:

“This event serves to motivate and encourage Vietnam golf courses to achieve the highest level of quality, service, and operations. The golf courses benefit from more accurate information and  better understanding on how they compare to one another and the golfers benefit from continuously improving and expanding range of golfing options. All which are beneficial for golf in Vietnam overall. Vietnam attracts around 35,000 golfers from overseas each year. This represents around 0.5% of all tourists who visit the country. This is very low as compared to neighboring countries. For example 700,000 golfers visit Thailand each year and this is around 3% of the total visitors. There are a number of reasons for Vietnam’s small golf tourism industry. The biggest factors are (1) lack of awareness among the world’s golfers, (2) relatively few direct flights to Vietnam’s main golf resort areas, and (3) until recently lack of destinations where there are 3 or more high quality golf courses in one area. Each factor can and should be tackled. For example, Vietnam Tourism could work with the private sector to publicize golf in Vietnam to the world through media and public relations campaigns, familiarization trips, and trade show exhibitions.”

The considerable number of votes to over 192,000 this year reflects the attention of golfing community to the Voting as well as to the development of golf industry in Vietnam.
